The town of Nové Strašecí is situated 40 km (24.8 miles) north-west of Prague (in the direction to Carlsbad) in Rakovník District.
The Microregion of Novostrašecko, formed by Nové Strašecí, Mšec township and another thirteen villages, is located in the north-east part of Rakovník District.
The entire area lies between the forests of Křivoklátsko and Hříškovsko. Thanks to its vastness and low population density, it ranks among the lowest-populated regions and it is well-known as a paradise for mushroom pickers.
It is a remarkable tourist destination with numerous ponds and vast forests ideal for individual recreation.
